IPIC has embarked on a programme to develop an entrepreneurial culture in the centre that encourages and supports exciting ideas and inventions generated by its researchers, in particular by the junior members of the team. This will catalyse, nurture and develop ideas, from possible new start-up companies, to new industry and commercialisation projects.
The first step in this programme, which is supported by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), was the launch of the IPIC BootCamp in November 2015, where over 20 individuals from across Ireland embarked on a 6 month programme to explore the commercial potential of their photonics based technology or idea, with the assistance of an experienced team of venture acceleration specialists. Training is being provided by the NDRC who have catalysed and invested in over 150 new ventures over the last 5 years, and the IPIC Management & Operations Team.
At the end of the programme 5 teams will present their idea to an investment panel, who will then provide feedback, guide and support the ideas to their next development stage. This could include advancement to the full NDRC Catalyser programme, further development through EI’s Commercialisation Fund or direct engagement with a company.
Topics covered on the programme include:
A diverse range of ideas being explored include: Remote foetal health monitoring, super-fast autofocusing camera phones &
miniaturised desktop biological testing.
