Kevin Shortiss received his B.Sc. in physics & mathematics from University College Cork in 2015, during which he completed two internships with the photonics systems group in Tyndall, working on optical amplifiers for the 2-micron telecommunications window. He started his Ph.D as a member of the integrated photonics group in Tyndall in October 2015, working on integrated optical comb demulipltexers. Kevin is currently the president of SPIE student chapter in Tyndall. His current research interests are in optical demultiplexing, single frequency and multiple frequency optical injection and the design of highly spectrally efficient lasers.
