Dmitri Papkovsky

Principal Investigator

Dmitri B. Papkovsky graduated Moscow State University in 1982 with an MSc in Chemistry and obtained his PhD degree in 1986 from the Institute of Biochemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow. In 1996 he joined the University College Cork where he is currently Professor at the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Head of Biophysics and Bioanalysis lab. Prof. Papkovsky is also a founding member and PI of the Irish Photonics Integration Centre (www.ipic.ie), a co-founder of Luxcel Biosciences (www.luxcel.com) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Research interests of Prof. Papkovsky include phosphorescence based probes for sensing and imaging of cell and tissue oxygenation, live FLIM/PLIM microscopy, and their use to study roles of O2 in biological systems, cell metabolism, bioenergetics and common disease states. He is author of 180+ publications in peer-reviewed journals and 15+ patents and patent applications, and has an h-index of 43.
