Katarzyna Komolibus

Senior Researcher

Kasia is a senior researcher in Biophotonics@Tyndall team. Her current work focuses on fetal pulse oximetry and multimodal spectroscopy for various diagnostic and surgical guidance applications.
Kasia received her MSc degree in electronics and telecommunications from Wroclaw University of Technology in 2011. Subsequently, she joined the Centre of Advanced Photonics and Process Analysis at Cork Institute of Technology to pursue a PhD in Applied Physics. During her PhD, she worked on ultrafast carrier dynamics in novel III-V nanostructures for next generation photonic devices. In 2017, she joined the newly established Biophotonics@Tyndall team of Prof. Andersson-Engels as a postdoctoral researcher. Her work was focused on the development of optically-enabled orthopaedic tools for surgical guidance and deep-tissue imaging using upconverting nanoparticles. In 2021, she joined Rockley Photonics as a senior R&D biophotonics engineer to work on the development of wearable sensors for continuous health monitoring based on a silicon photonics platform. She re-joined the Biophotonics@Tyndall team in 2023.
