Suvam Kumar Barik

PhD Researcher

Suvam Kumar Barik is working on research topic Hybrid Time-of-Flight and Gas in Scattering Media Absorption Spectroscopy (GASMAS) for biomedical applications, under the supervision of Dr. Sanathana Konugolu Venkata Sekar and co-supervision of Prof. Stefan Andersson-Engels.

Suvam received his bachelor’s degree (in 2022) and master’s degree (2024) in Physics from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL), India.

Suvam comments on his motivation – During my master’s program, I had the opportunity to learn and conduct experiments in Optics and Photonics laboratory, which ignited my passion for photonics. In my final year of master’s degree, I worked with the Medical Imaging research team at SSSIHL on a project that involved assessing the quality and cost-effectiveness of fluorescence imaging sensors integrated into a hybrid gamma-fluorescence imaging device for the diagnosis of thyroid cancer. This experience motivated me to pursue an interdisciplinary PhD in Photonics, leading me to the BioPhotonics group at Tyndall.
